Why support Nashville Queer History?
Founded in September 2021, we are currently the only organization dedicated to researching, documenting, preserving, and sharing Nashville and Middle Tennessee’s LGBTQ+ history in an online and accessible format.
Our founder and director, Sarah Calise, along with a rotating volunteer staff are currently building several public projects: a nonfiction book to be published in 2024 by Vanderbilt University Press, an online archive to be launched June 2023, an oral history database, K-12 curriculum and public programming, and a driving tour of local LGBTQ+ sites.
NQH received one grant in partnership with Nashville Sites to build the driving tour, but other costs come directly from Calise’s own wallet: web server space, research travel costs (gas, parking, plane tickets and hotel fees), digitization fees, oral history equipment purchases (Zoom Pro account and audio recorder), and content creation tools (Canva Pro). Our long-term goal is to become a 501©(3) non-profit organization, but until then we are using Patreon for donations to support the work making OUR queer and trans history available to ALL!
